Clinical Nurse Specialist

JOB OVERVIEW:
An exempt position responsible for educating clinical and administrative staff about a variety of topics ranging from organizational protocols, policies and procedures, health-related governmental regulations, and patient centered medical home processes. This professional position is often held by an advanced practice nurse or specialty expert who serves as a consultant and resource for the medical practice to ensure quality care. The position entails performing a variety of tasks in line with Information Technology, Staff Education and Nursing Skills training.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Serves as an educator, consultant, practitioner, and researcher to address a range of topics for clinicians and administrators. Provides expertise about clinical/health matters.
- Participates in needs assessment, policy development, program planning/implementation and providing leadership at the senior level. Designs program guidelines, activities, and procedures to promote quality patient care.
- Consults on nursing issues related to the field of ambulatory care nursing and ensures that the nursing staff maintains an established level of clinical competency.
- Provides clinical direction to the nursing staff in the delivery of patient care through standards of Patient Centered Medical Home. Plans/implements training and provides technical assistance to health providers in the clinics.
- Collects, analyzes, interprets data and presents information in formats that clarify the significance of the data to a variety of audiences.
- Responsible for assessing the facility's nurse practices and its impact on patient outcomes.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of defined area of advanced practice in nursing and allied health services. Familiarity with state-of-the-art developments in medical field.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws relating to nursing/clinical care, professional ethics related to the delivery of nursing/clinical care.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, health status indicators, multicultural factors, and community health issues.
- Skill in collaborating with colleagues, providers, and patients to assess health needs of specific populations, developing strategies and specific programs to address these issues, and making presentations.
- Skill in writing protocols, policies and procedures.
- Skill in staying on top of trends in the healthcare field serving as proficient role model.
- Ability to analyze complex data and draw conclusions needed to develop center policy and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with variety of internal and external groups.
- Ability to facilitate discussion and build consensus.
EXPERINCE REQUIREMENTS:
Extensive experience (5 to 10 years) in a relevant specialty clinical area, with at least 2 to 5 years in ambulatory care setting preferred.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Current state license in nursing or other specialty as necessary. Current BLS certification.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or other clinical specialty) and a Master’s degree in Nursing, Community Health, or other clinical specialty.
